Insulated Steel Roll-up Doors are becoming more and more popular due to the many benefits they're bringing into the commercial industry. The barrier created from these insulated doors helps to maintain the ideal temperature inside of your building, despite the intensity of outdoor weather. By creating a sufficient environmental separation from the inside and outside of the building, insulated steel roll-up doors work to reduce both energy costs and noise transmission!
You don't have to be located in Alaska to need insulated commercial steel doors - in fact, insulated steel roll-up doors are ideal for any climate controlled environment! A door that's un-insulated allows air conditioning and heat to transfer into and out of the building - essentially letting your money disappear into thin air! By reducing the amount of energy needed to sustain that desired indoor temperature, your bills will show a significant decrease when you invest in insulated roll-up steel doors!
Insulated steel roll-up doors are measured by R-value, U-value, and STC rating. An R-value is the measure of thermal efficiency (the higher the number, the better it insulates), while U-value measures the transmission of heat through surfaces (the lower the number, the better).
R-value was the traditional form of measurement when it came to insulated doors, but this is commonly being transitioned to the U-value because people view it as a more accurate and reliable reading - it accounts for an entire system rather than one object (i.e. the U-value will take into account the steel that encloses the insulation as well, where as the R-value only accounts for the insulation itself).
STC Rating on the other hand is the sound transmission class. If your door is well insulated, It's going to help significantly with noise reduction. This makes insulation an attractive option for commercial/industrial environments such as warehouses that deal with loud engines and machinery on a consistent basis.
Polyethylene insulation is a foil backed, dual layer of heavy-duty "air-bubble" insulation, which is secured into place with a strong adhesive and joined by mylar film.
Insulated doors can come with header seals and both top and side draft stops. These options provide additional protection to your building and assets against harmful environmental elements. The header seal attaches directly to the header and extends up to 5" to the door curtain, forming an effective barrier. The top draft stop is mounted to the door curtain as well, and provides a 2-1/4" weather seal between the door and the header.
