The start of a new year brings about the opportunity to reflect on the successes and challenges that your self storage facility faced in 2016, and also a chance to set goals and resolutions for what’s in store for 2017.
Safety And Security
For many owners and operators, safety and security are at the top of their priority list going into a new year, and rightfully so; the threat of fires, break-ins and flooding are very real and present dangers that face tenants and managers. The hassle, headache and heartbreak that comes along with losing personal property to either malicious intent or natural disaster can be overwhelming, to say the least.
So what can you do to protect your facility and your tenants’ valued belongings? How do you begin to formulate a plan of defense against burglars and Mother Nature alike?
The Right Doors
The first thing on your checklist should be to take stock of the roll-up doors on your units. Are they 1st or 2nd generation? What’s the barrel like? Don’t expose yourself to unnecessary liability! If you aren’t using Janus International’s 3rd generation door system, you could run into a variety of problems when it comes to emergency situations, such as malfunctioning guides and items getting caught in the barrel head.
ADA compliance is another factor that needs to be taken into account. If you don’t have a 3rd generation door, your self storage facility can get hit with penalties and fines for not being handicap-accessible. For more information on ADA requirements and how Janus can meet your needs, check out our Storage Disability Products website or send us an email at email@example.com for more information.
