Definitions of commonly used Nokē Smart Entry terms
Understanding Common Terms in the Nokē Smart Entry System
The Nokē Smart Entry system uses specific terminology to describe access events, user roles, and security features. Understanding these terms will help you navigate the system effectively and troubleshoot access-related issues. This guide explains key terms related to unlocking methods, access zones, and system functionality.
1. Unlock Methods & Access Events
Manual Unlock / Opened Using Forced Entry
This term indicates that the lock was disengaged manually from inside the unit, rather than through the Nokē Smart Entry Mobile App.
- The activity log will display either Manual Unlock or Opened Using Forced Entry, depending on the device's firmware version.
Out-of-Zone Unlock / Out-of-Zone Attempt
This term is logged when a user attempts to open a device outside their assigned Access Zone.
- Access Zones define where a user is authorized to enter within the facility.
- If a tenant encounters this issue, check their assigned zones in the Web Portal.
- For more details, refer to our article on Understanding Access Zones.
Remotely Unlocked
This status appears when a device is unlocked via the Nokē Smart Entry Web Portal, rather than using the Mobile App.
2. System & Facility Terms
Occupied / In Use
These terms indicate that a unit is currently rented by a tenant.
PMS (Property Management Software)
Your PMS is the software used to manage rental units, tenants, and payments. Nokē Smart Entry integrates with PMS platforms to control tenant access based on rental status.
Offline or Digital Keys
Digital keys are temporary, device-specific authorizations issued when a user arrives at the facility.
- The system verifies a user's location, rental status, and access schedule before granting a key.
- Offline keys allow tenants to access their units even if cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity is weak.
- Once issued, the key is stored on the user's mobile phone and does not require continuous internet access.
3. Roles & Permissions
Roles vs. Permissions
- Roles determine a user's general function within the system (e.g., Tenant, Facility Manager, Administrator).
- Permissions define specific actions users can perform within the Web Portal and Mobile App (e.g., managing locks, assigning access, generating reports).
- Each role comes with a set of predefined permissions, ensuring users only have access to the features necessary for their responsibilities.
