Do you have a few questions about our all-new Nokē® Smart Entry System? We've got our most Frequently Asked Questions and their answers below!

Does the Nokē® Smart Entry System integrate with my Property Management Software?

The Nokē® system has live integrations with the following self storage software:

  • Omni (Extra Space Storage Property Management)
  • Sitelink
  • storEDGE
  • Storelocal's GDS (StorEDGE and Self Storage Manager)

We're working to integrate with other Self Storage Property Management systems.  If you're using another system, contact sales@janusintl.com to learn more.  New integrations typically take 4-6 weeks.

How does the Nokē Smart Entry System differ from the legacy SecurGuard® locking product?

The legacy product was controlled by the PTI access control system.  The current version of the system uses Bluetooth unit controllers at the door to control each lock.  This enables tenants to access their units with their mobile phone or bluetooth fob. For a full list of mobile devices that are supported, view the "what devices are supported" question below.

What do the different colored lights mean on the face plate of the Nokē® Smart Entry Unit Controller?

Red: Locked

Green: Open

No Light: Asleep

What mobile devices are supported?

Nokē® Smart Entry is compatible with iOS devices that have Bluetooth 4.0 LE hardware and running iOS 7.0 or later (iPhone 4S or newer, iPod Touch 5G or newer, iPad 3G or newer, iPad minis).

It is also compatible with Android devices that have Bluetooth 4.0 hardware and running Kit Kat (4.4) version of the Android operating system (including Samsung Galaxy S4 or newer, HTC One or newer, and several more).

*With the iPhone application, when the user is not actively using the app, the system moves it to the background state. For many apps, the background state is just a brief stop on the way to the app being suspended. Suspending apps is a way of improving battery life. It also allows the system to devote important system resources to the new foreground app that has drawn the user’s attention. Because of this, once you open the Nokē® Smart Entry application, over time and as you open more apps, the app will become suspended and need to be re-launched.

How secure is Bluetooth?

Nokē® Smart Entry works using Bluetooth 4.0 LE which contains the highest level of security. Bluetooth 4.0 LE uses a 128-bit AES CCM encryption algorithm to ensure transmissions are encrypted and secure so hackers can’t access your storage unit.

How secure is the Nokē® Smart Entry System?

The Nokē® Smart Entry System uses Bluetooth 4.0 which contains the highest level of security. Bluetooth 4.0 LE uses 128-bit AES CCM encryption algorithm to ensure transmissions are encrypted and secure so hackers can’t access your storage unit.

It also uses end-to-end encryption with double secured transmissions using 128-bit AES encryption, and utilizes cryptographic key protocol, so keys are assigned based on permission levels and used to encrypt all communication to and from the lock.

This Smart Entry System uses rigorous and ongoing third-party cyber security testing.

How secure is the hardware portion of the Smart Entry System?

We have also put the Nokē® Smart Entry System through rigorous testing for both security and strength, and used boron hardened steel along with hardened plastic in the unit controllers.

What are the top features and benefits of this solution for me as an owner/operator?
  • Customer convenience (mobile access to unit and other access points)
  • Automated overlocking and release
  • Additional security
  • Cloud-enabled
  • Integrated with property management software
  • A smarter security solution
How does the Nokē® Smart Entry Gate/Man-Door/Slider Controller(s) signal the gate, man-door or slider door to open?

The Nokē® Smart Entry Man-Door Controller signals the man-door or slider-door to open using a dry contact to relay - connecting the two wires. No power is applied.

So Nokē® Smart Entry utilizes a mesh network. What's the big deal about that?

The mesh network allows for battery-efficient two-way communication between the Nokē® Smart Entry Wireless Entry System locks and the cloud. Having this in place instead of point-to-point to two-way communication takes away the need for a cellular connection for a user to control the lock.

Does the unit controller have onboard memory if my facility's power goes out?

Yes! It holds up to 300 events - unlocked, open, locked, and motion each create an event. Data is held and passed when Gateways come back up (when power is restored).
